Giving and Serving
. . . you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
We have found it helpful to create a missions model, using the text from the Acts of the Apostles. When Jesus spoke of Jerusalem, He referred to the temple and the area within the walls of the city. Similarly, we have avenues within the walls of our church where we can give and serve:
Priest’s Discretionary Fund allows the priest to provide financial assistance to people in need (i.e. rent and utilities, critically necessary supplies, and services). Recipients are assured of anonymity.
Chemo Bags provide many items of necessity and comfort for those facing the trials of cancer treatments.
Prayer Shawls are handcrafted by the women of the church, for those in the hospital or confined to their home. Willing hands and supplies are always in need.
“. . . Judea and Samaria” were areas within close proximity to the city of Jerusalem.We might compare that with local communities which surround St. Alban’s.
We actively support community resources through financial contribution and volunteer participation in Hope Helps, The Pregnancy Center of Sanford and Oviedo, and Grace ‘n Grits Homeless Ministry.
“. . . to the remotest part of the earth.” The Anglican Province of America has churches and missions in India, the Philippines, Ecuador, and Haiti.
The school we have helped build in India is one of the few opportunities young girls have to escape being sold into slavery. Sponsoring a child costs as little as $35 per month.
The indigenous people of Ecuador, recently freed from slavery, must eek out a living by farming atop volcanic mountains in the most rural areas of the country. We are actively working to help these strong and dedicated Christians build schools and churches.
Every Fall, the parish church at St. Alban’s prepares and packs Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. These gift boxes are sent around the world to bring joy at Christmas time, but also to spread the gospel around the world.
Seminarian Fund, a diocesan-wide mission to aid those who are sacrificing time, talent, and resources to prepare themselves for ministry.
